As I cruised through my news feed on facebook over the last 2 weeks, my mouf (yes my mouf!) literally flew open at least 50 times as I looked at the pics posted by proud mothers of their daughters going on prom.  And as I looked at the pics I just kept asking myself when did it become acceptable, vogue...the thing for seniors (17 or 18 years old) to wear Vegas showgirl & Burlesque style "peek a boo" dresses? The modern day prom dress has became a dress that's tailor made to show off their "tramp stamp" or designed by a seamstress (I'm using that word extremely loose)  with slits that shows everything from the inner thigh...down!  As a mother of an 18 year old senior who just  recently celebrated her prom day, I was anxious & so  excited to post her pics on facebook, I even created an photo album dedicated to her. The weeks of preparation that was involved was a wonderful experience that she & I shared...and now the time to share our collaborative "project" with the world has came! 

I'm blessed that we have the same taste in shoes & clothes, it was so easy to shop for her dress, shoes & accessories.  Dave & Johnny, my favorite designer of gowns & dresses was a no brainer for her prom dress in which we chose a beautiful & classy light teal long flowing gown that she could go from the Oscar's red carpet event right to a dinner party with President Obama at the White House with no need to change.  And since I think I am thee truth when it comes to my shoe game it was imperative that her shoes be fierce. We waited 18 years for that day & she needed to be sharp from her head to her feet...that's was an absolute must and I must say myself, we did it! 

I posted her pictures this week and the amount of likes & amount of comments that her album captured solidified that the level & the bar was raised in that my daughter was age appropriate, stylish & a class act that was needed to be seen on or off facebook.  My opinion is that we never should glorify or posts pics of our daughters that don't represent her & the hard work you have put in her to becoming a successful, productive adult with some degree of moral character! We as mothers who raised or are still raising  our daughters not just let them grow up, we know that it's important for our daughters to have self love, self respect & an overstanding of queenship! In order to instill that in our daughters, we must possess these things as well! We must set examples of being a woman who is not defined or motivated by peer pressure or keeping up with the latest trends. This will stop our daughters from desiring to dress in clothes that objectify them sexually & are not be age inappropriate.  Mothers, we must be thee example of how to set an example for our daughters!

It is never ever cool or a day of pride when you post pictures of your new grand baby that everybody is saying  "Congratulations" when your daughter is 15, 16, 17 or 18 years old & ain't no ring on her finger!  You don't deserve no congrats, you dropped the ball somewhere! STOP THAT!!! Real Talk!!!
