Homemade Shampoo

Homemade Shampoo

Put an old shampoo bottle to good recycled use by mixing the following ingredients together for your very own shampoo.

  • 1 cup pure liquid castile soap (like Dr. Bronners)
  • 1 cup green tea (brewed for 30 minutes)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Use as is, or depending upon your hair type, add an herbal infusion to replace the green tea in the above recipe. Use a handful of fresh herbs or a spoonful of dried herbs and a cup of boiling water to prepare the infusion, steeping for 30 minutes. Here are some suggestions for different hair types (and predicaments):

  • for dark hair: sage leaves
  • for greasy hair: yarrow
  • for fair hair: marigold flowers
  • for dandruff: a mixture of nettle leaves and burdock roots

I have been natural for 4 months after transitioning for about 1 year...I love my twa and I'm learning a lot on how to maintain it.  I have even made my own shay, coconut oil, and tea tree oil, to keep it moisturized!

Hi everyone, i'm Chanel. When I first went natural I spent so much time , money, and damage on all the natural hair products. As i educated myself more and more I started to realize none of them were really healthy or affordable. Sooo i made my own! I got so many compliments I decided to sell it! I'm always looking for non-commercial black hair products. I do not use extension or etc (too pricy)... and the lines they have out here is not doing the trick.  Looking forward to getting some tips.  Right now, I use my kitchen remedies to keep my mane healthy (olive oil & mayo mixed with avocado and (1) egg yolk)... keeps it from breaking and shedding.

So glad to join this group. I've been wearing my natural hair for awhile now, and it's hard to find the right moisturizer for it. I'm looking forward to learning new things and getting helpful tips.
