Makeup by Ms. Rose
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Rosemary developed a strong passion for color and art from the at a very young age. Her Grandmother would always told her, “You should be a makeup artist when you grow up, so that you can make women look beautiful.” Rosemary thought it was a fun idea and began experimenting with makeup throughout her school-aged years.
As she approached the end of her high school years, it became clear to Rosemary that she needed to start thinking about college and a future career. She started thinking about how much she had always loved makeup. When she was a toddler, Rosemary used to dig into her mom’s makeup case and put eyeliner and lipstick on her Barbie Dolls. She would even put on matching lipstick, which would usually end up all over her face. She hadn’t quite realized it, but Rosemary had always had a passion for makeup. When Prom season came along, she became very busy doing all of the girl’s makeup for the dance.
Later on in life, Rosemary accepted a position at GM as a buyer. It wasn’t her passion, but it was a good step toward establishing a career. When she had the idea of leaving her 9-5 buyers position at GM to pursue a career in makeup, nobody supported her. Everyone continued trying to reinforce to her that being a makeup artist wasn’t a steady job, and that she probably wouldn’t make it.
Rosemary set aside the negativity to follow her dreams. She is extremely grateful to her mentors Rashida “The Glam Doctor: Williams, and Tayla Ashford for her training. Her connection with these two women allowed her to perfect her skills in airbrush, beauty, television, and stage makeup.
Rosemary resides in Southfield, Michigan. So far, she has worked with Impact Television Network, Angela Dunlap’s stage plays: “Church Girl”, and “Why Do Good Girls like Bad Boys”. Her work has been featured in Bougie Magazine and New Clientele Hair Magazine. She has worked with many fantastic photographers, and other talented makeup artists, including George McKinney. To this day, Rosemary is living her dream as a professional makeup artist.
