In today’s society, it seems that people think that everyone is supposed to be rail thin or skinny. Growing up, I (pictured above) was always the larger of my sisters and whenever we were out and about together guys would always gravitate towards them. Not that I was looking for attention or even jealous for that matter, but it always made me wonder why society thinks you’re supposed to be a size two. I know everyone has their preference, but it seems like if you’re over a certain size that people automatically label you. Instead of just saying you’re beautiful, pretty or attractive, they always have to throw in the fact that you’re “big” or “thick” or even go as far to saying “fat.” I remember meeting one of my ex-boyfriends mom for the first time and when I asked him what did she say about me he said, “She said she’s big but she’s pretty.” I often hear people say: “oh she’s cute to be a big girl” or “she’s big but she has a pretty face.” That poses the question ‘does being overweight automatically make you unattractive’?
Hollywood has done a great job of trying to act like there’s only one way to define beautiful, butbeauty comes in all shapes and sizes. If it weren’t for the Jill Scotts, Queen Latifahs, and Kelly Prices of the world that made a stand then being a plus-size woman would be like the mark of the beast or something. I’m so thankful that no matter what society tries to do to tear down women of a larger size that I have learned to love and appreciate myself the way I am. As a plus-size woman, I have always been really confident no matter what people thought of me. When I step out the door, I make sure I’m always on point because I love looking and feeling good no matter what size I am. Whenever I meet people for the first time they seem surprised that I’m so confident in the skin I’m in even though I’m not a size two. Although I’m on a weight loss journey, it’s not to be skinny but more so all about being healthy. Honestly there are a lot of “skinny” people that aren’t in the best of health either.
So, does being plus-size automatically make you unattractive??? NO ma’am. Here are a few beautiful ‘plus-size’ women who love the skin they’re in, and for the record, SKINNY doesn’t automatically make you PRETTY!!!!
