Girl Power!

It looks as though Alicia Keys has joined forces with none other than Nicki Minaj for a new track titled, ‘Girl On Fire’.  The song hit the internet earlier today after it was announced that Alicia would be performing it for the first time at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

The track features a foot-stomping and hand-clapping beat while playing off of the message of holding your head high while overcoming different obstacles in life.  Alicia Keys sings over the track,  ‘She’s got her head in the cloud and she’s not backing down, This Girl Is On Fire’, while Nicki Minaj uses her verses to address her struggles with fame.  She comes in at the beginning of the track referencing Marilyn Monroe while throwing a shout out to Olympic winner Gabby Douglas:

Spirit of Marilyn callin’ me / Orderin’, ballin’ me / Said she would never leave / Continuin’ to torture me /Tellin’ me to come with her / Underneath my comforter / She brought a gun with her / Then says to run with her / Took me on a balcony, tellin’ me to jump with her / Yeah, I’m into ghosts but / I ain’t doin’ stunts with her. I ain’t trying to be that/ haters wanna see that/ but I got them aggy/ cause I win the goal like Gabby

On verse 2, she raps:

Dear God, if you here God/ make the fire disappear when they stare God/ Take away my fear when they in the fear God/ Do you fear God? ‘cause I fear God, and in my backyard that’s a deer God/ and that’s a horse ranch, and to my core fans keep reppin’ me, do it to the death of me. X in the box cause ain’t nobody checkin’ me.
