FORBES recently announced the 30 Under 30 most influential people in media and we’re excited to see that 19 of the 30 millennials listed are women. Among the list of this year’s winners is Angelica Nwandu, owner of The Shade Room.

Angelica Nwandu, 25, has revolutionized celebrity gossip with The Shade Room, which the New York Times recently dubbed “the TMZ of Instagram”. The site, which was initially published anonymously only on instagram, currently boasts 2.8 million followers, and pulls in an additional 100,000 followers every 10 days.

In a recent interview Angie was asked what sets The Shade Room (@theshaderoominc) apart from other blogs and how she’s been able to obtain so much success in just one year. Angie says the majority of her success is due to timing, stepping outside of the box, and having a great team. Keep Reading…

“The Shade Room was the first blog to publish directly to instagram. We came out last year and at the time no one else was doing that. Now, everyone is doing it. People were like you’re wasting your time, why are you putting so much time into blogging on social media, you’re doing this the wrong way. But really what we did was revolutionize a new way of getting the news. Now you see a lot of people getting their news directly on social media as oppose to going to websites.”

Congrats to Angie and the entire The Shade Room team for making the FORBES list. A few more of our favorite women in media also made the list including 18 year Ocean Pleasant of REAL magazine, Ana Kasparian of The Young Turks, Heben Nigatu of BuzzFeed, and  Kimberly Foster of For Harriet (for the full list CLICK HERE).
