She Started Her Own Plant-Based Hair Bundles Biz To Avoid The Use Of Toxic Synthetic Extensions

Aug 06, 2023

Ciara Imani May, the visionary behind Rebundle, is on a mission to revolutionize the hair extension game while prioritizing the health of Black women and the environment.

Rebundle.co plant-based hair extensions are a breath of fresh air compared to synthetic and kanekalon hair.

Having experienced scalp irritation and rashes herself while wearing synthetic hair, Ciara (@_Cizn) decided enough was enough. She launched Rebundle.co , drawing inspiration from her own struggles and aiming to provide a safer alternative.

"The idea came from my own experience wearing hair extensions and going through scalp irritation and rashes," May shared with The Root.

Toxicity simply won't fly, and that goes for hair extensions too. Unlike synthetic hair, Rebundle's plant-based hair bundles are free from harmful plastic toxins.

May emphasized the brand's commitment to creating hair extensions that are as hairlike as possible while maintaining their core value of non-toxicity. "We're constantly in research and development to get the bundles as hairlike as possible and maintain certain values that we hold true, like non-toxicity," May explained.

But Rebundle's impact goes beyond personal health. May recognizes that switching to plant-based hair extensions may be a significant commitment for some, so she has implemented a hair recycling program for wearers who are still attached to their synthetic hair. This program not only helps hold ourselves accountable for the existing waste in the ecosystem but also offers an opportunity for individuals to contribute to environmental sustainability even if they're not ready to fully embrace plant-based hair. May expressed, "We want to help maintain accountability for the waste that's already in existence in the ecosystem. But it's also a way for our community to choose sustainability, even if they're not ready to make the switch to plant-based hair. They still have the opportunity to do some good for the environment."

May's vision extends beyond just providing safer and more sustainable hair extensions. She wants to transform the entire experience of purchasing and disposing of extensions while ensuring inclusivity and transparency. "I think we're pretty hell-bent on having a significant impact on the health and environmental impact that hair extensions are having on us. But we also want to change the way we experience buying and disposing of our extensions and who's involved," May shared.

If you're curious about Rebundle's offerings, they provide texture samples for $20.00 on their website, with hair bundles priced at $45.00. Visit Rebundle.co for more information
