Jesseca Dupart, better known as @DaRealBBJudy and the creator of Kaleidocscope Miracle Drops, recently sat down with the Breakfast Club to talk product development, beauty supply store distribution, and making millions on social media. Keep reading for some great insight from the beauty mogul as she shares a few of her social media marketing strategies and more,
Developing The Right Product
I was a full time hairstylist and I saw an epidemic of people who had hair loss whether it was from wearing bad weaves or hereditary allopecia. I wanted to create a product that was an alternative to taking hair growth pills. A good friend of mine had a team of chemist and he kind of handed them over to me. We tested the products for almost 2 years, and it’s been in retail for 4 years now.
Dominating The Urban Market
Right now it’s all about strategy. We have the opportunity to go into big stores, but right now we’re in OTC stores, which are the mom and pop urban stores. Once you have that massively, then you can move into those bigger stores. Ecommerce has done great for me, but what I do in ecommerce sales the stores want to duplicate it. So once they saw I sold millions by myself then they started placing million dollar orders. It helped with having a website platform that was based around a sales funnel I put into place. My friend used a clickfunnels review to see how optimising a website to target your audience helps with conversion, and she thinks it’s great!
Social Media vs Search Engine Advertising
I’ve used Google AdWords for a couple of years but I’m really big on using social media marketing strategies and teaming up with the right influencers. That being said, a colleague of mine recently used Wix to build a website for her business and as part of her subscription received some Google AdWords vouchers. If you’ve built a website using Wix, or would like assistance setting one up, this post about the price of Wix has lots of helpful information. It’s all about exploring your options and finding a combination of techniques that works for you. To elaborate, businesses often reach out to social media influencers to market their product because you have a higher and quicker return. I’ve done television, I’ve done radio, but on social media if I pay someone to post my product at 3 o’clock I’m going to see results at 3 o’clock.
Preparation Is Key
I am overly prepared. I got a warehouse that was 6,000 square feet when I only needed 2,000 square feet, and then we grew into it in 3 months. So I’m always overly prepared.
Persistence Pays Off
The first month of business I didn’t make anything. But because I was a full-time hairstylist, I had some financial backing and put that money into the business. I didn’t start touching my profit until about two years in. I’m not college educated, but look how far I’ve come. I’m 36 now and I’ve been able to see a few million dollars off of being very persistent, passionate, creative, and going against what everyone said I couldn’t do.
